If you can’t tell by the heat, it’s summertime here in the Tri-State region and many of you are throwing parties on a routine basis. First and foremost, from the team here at Del Duke Insurance Group, we would like to give you 7 grilling safety tips to make sure you stay safe while partying reasonably.
Here are 7 Grilling Safety Tips To Take With You To Your Next Party:
Prep Your Meal
We know how excited you get when you’re about to throw a party, but its important to be prepared no matter what it is that you’re cooking. Before the party gets crowded, make sure you set 15 minutes aside to prep whatever it is that you’re cooking. This simple task is the most important step and can help you become an even safer party.
Check Your Propane Tank
This tip gets overlooked far too often. You’re about to start the party, you have your friends and food ready to go and then all of a sudden the grill stops working. Although its easy to go out and buy a new propane, you catch the risk of not setting it up properly. Take your time and check the propane tank before and after each time you use it.
Grill Away From Any Structures
Charcoal and gas grills are designed for outdoor use. Be sure that when you begin grilling to be at least 10 feet away from any structure or your house. It’s easy to set up your grill against a wall, but this is incredibly dangerous. Another note is to pay attention to overhanging tree branches when you set up your grill. These are not only a fire hazard, but can fall as you begin your party this weekend.
Is Your Grill Stable?
Set up your grill on a flat surface and make sure the grill can’t be tipped over by minor touches or slight bumps. Consider using a grill pad or splatter mat underneath your grill to protect your deck or patio – this can be a real help that is almost never thought of in advance.
Wear The Right Equipment
No, we aren’t suggesting one of those “Kiss The Cook” aprons or chefs hats, but make sure you wear the right attire before you begin your cookout. Wearing jewelry and baggy clothes can potentially get caught in the flames and turn into a very long and unwanted trip to the hospital. Another key component is to wear gloves. Don’t be a superhero, wear the gloves and if your friends make fun of you for it. Join in on the fun! Safety doesn’t have to look cool, it is cool!
Add Handles to Your Grill
Remember those fun gloves we talked about? This is where they come in handy. By adding handles or at least getting a grill with handles, will help you maintain focus on grilling the best possible food you can.
CLEAN THE GRILL!
This is easily the most grueling and hated task in the world of grilling, but it’s critical for proper grilling safety and the difference between average food and great food. This step takes at least 2 minutes of your time [if done regularly]. As the grill is cooling off, use the brush that’s normally provided to you and get rid of any unwanted or excess grease. Grease is flammable and can do a lot of damage if ignited.
Grilling safety doesn’t have to be difficult. Just follow these simple steps, have fun, and entertain your guests the way you know them best.
